Associate
Jim is an associate in the Labor and Employment Section, where he advises and represents employers on a wide range of employment matters with an emphasis on risk management, compliance, and dispute resolution. He works with employers to proactively address workplace challenges, including discrimination and retaliation claims, wage-and-hour issues, employment and restrictive covenant agreements, and trade secret protection.
Prior to joining Willcox Savage, Jim practiced with a boutique law firm based in Northern Virginia handling construction and surety litigation and with a Pittsburgh-based firm focusing on commercial litigation. This background informs his practical approach to employment counseling and dispute resolution.
Jim counsels companies on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including equal employment opportunity and civil rights requirements, wage-and-hour obligations, and employee rights under the ADA and FMLA. In this context, he assists with employment and restrictive covenant agreements and advises on issues designed to safeguard business interests while minimizing legal exposure. He also supports employers with drafting, reviewing, and updating employee handbooks, policies, and workplace procedures to reflect evolving legal requirements.
In addition, Jim works with employers to navigate complex and sensitive employment situations that frequently give rise to litigation. His experience includes advising on workplace investigations, employee accommodation and leave matters, and disciplinary and termination decisions in order to aid employers with making defensible, business-oriented decisions.
When disputes arise, Jim represents employers in employment-related matters pending in federal and state courts, before administrative agencies, and through alternative dispute resolution. He also represents real estate developers, property owners, and management companies nationwide in Fair Housing matters, including advising on compliance and defending against administrative complaints, enforcement actions, and related litigation. Throughout these matters, he works with clients at all stages of dispute resolution, from early risk assessment through contested proceedings.
