Billing and Collection Specialist

Job Description

This position will serve as a billing specialist in the firm’s accounting and finance functions. The role will span multiple processes and requires flexibility and a willingness to learn. Frequently, the specialist will be asked to coordinate with lawyers to develop a strategy for the collection of aged receivables.

 Essential Job Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work collaboratively as part of the accounting team, routinely supporting billing for a large practice
  • Work closely with partners and the administrative team during periods of high volume

Scope: Success depends on the individual’s ability to learn systems and processes while exercising good judgement and decision-making.

Responsibilities

Decisions made: Position is partially self-directed and involves daily decision-making.

All attorney and non-attorney staff

Overtime: On occasion, as needed

Qualifications

Jobholder Characteristics:

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance OR equivalent related experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of legal billing processes
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Self-starter willing to learn all aspects of the firm’s billing function with an eye toward efficiency and process improvement
  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently with strong attention to detail
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to assist where needed
  • Ability to recognize the importance of confidentiality and sensitive work product

Training needed: Financial accounting software

Equipment used: Computer, telephone, copiers/scan machine, printers, calculator

Conditions

Working Conditions: Office setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to read computer screen and various reports
  • Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with employees and others
  • Must be able to write, type and use phone system
  • Standing/walking
  • Climbing/stooping/kneeling

Other: Reliable attendance
